One of my favorite musical groups is CityAlight a ministry of St. Paul’s Castle Hill. To learn more about this group of volunteers and their work check out their website:
What is amazing about St. Paul’s Castle Hill is that the church is over two hundred years old and still going strong! They are planting new churches and seeking to proclaim the Gospel to the people of Sydney, Australia.
Many of their songs are designed for children and young adults: to help them to understand faith and God’s nature. One of their songs Jesus Strong and Kind has been used to comfort survivors of human trafficking. The survivors found hope and healing in the words. City Alight tells the story and how they connected with the survivors.
Why this matters
God established His church to be His witness. Different churches work through various outreaches. It is right and necessary for God’s people to stand against the darkness of our fallen world and minister to the hurting. Teaching the truth that Jesus is strong and kind and encouraging people to trust in Him is a powerful message.
God gives believers a variety of spiritual gifts. Are you using your gifts to glorify Him and serve others? God has uniquely equipped you for the time and place that you are alive!
Using music and other media forms to minister
Sometimes it helps to read a Psalm, lyrics or stanzas of various hymns, songs, etc. to someone who is in distress or pain (if they ask you to). When I made visits, often people would ask me to read Scripture passages or to pray with them. Once can pray a Psalm or stanza with the person to encourage them. This is more beneficial than the typical “platitudes” that people often say to put themselves at ease in the presence of suffering.
Music helps people to feel comfort and peace. I have a favorite collections of hymns that helps me when anxiety and despair come against me. There is much to be upset about in our nation and world, but the truths of God in song helps me to stay grounded. This is a great song for when you are facing some difficulties:
This song is a reminder that God is over all–a good reminder when it seems as though evil and darkness are overwhelming. If you have children or grand kids these songs might be a way for you to teach them truths about God. Children in children’s church always loved the songs that we would teach them, especially when they got to dance and move around! Music is a great way to teach them bigger truths because it’s easier to remember concepts when put to music. Another great resource for children’s ministry are the children’s worship bulletins:

This resource is customizable for whatever passage/topic you are presenting. I used them in my last ministry placement. They are also designed for different age groups with appropriate activities.
Thanks for reading this post. Hope that you find these worship songs to be a blessing in your life!
