About

Purpose Statement

Jon Bloom describes our calling:

“You will change the world, more than you know. And because of that, because your life will impact so many others, Jesus wants you to live prayerfully (Ephesians 6:18), walk carefully (Ephesians 5:15), and seek his kingdom first (Matthew 6:33). If you do, if you faithfully invest the “little” he has entrusted to you, no labor of yours in this life will be in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58) and he will entrust you with more in the life to come (Matthew 25:21).”

Theology and Commentary

I will be quoting and paraphrasing from various authors in this blog. The author does not necessarily agree with all elements of his/her theology or life practices of selected authors. The purpose of this blog isn’t to debate theology, or promote a single theological viewpoint. I welcome all who seek truth, grace, and hope in a spiritual journey. This blog is intended to be a refuge for others seeking spiritual insights.

I frequently include quotes from the website http://www.gotquestions.org. You can read about their particular viewpoint and theological views at link below:

I include these quotes because this organization uses and explains scripture in a manner that most people can readily understand and apply to his or her situation.

This author affirms the role of scripture in informing and guiding faith in a person’s spiritual life. Scripture serves God’s method to reveal Himself and His actions throughout human history. Scripture is properly studied and applied when readers approach passages with humility and seek inherent truths within the historical context of the particular passage or book.

God’s Word is a collection of separate books with literary styles that requires careful consideration: historical period, audience, and cultural norms of the authors and recipients (Epistles for example). We have an inherent tendency to interpret and apply Scripture through the lenses of our own worldview, culture, and personal experiences. Robert Stein’s book A Basic Guide to Interpreting the Bible: Playing by the Rules is an excellent, readable guide to assist bible learners. There is a free biblical institute at the link below that covers this entire book!
